This home is a classic mid-century modern house, built in 1960, and had retained many of the original details.
We wanted to embrace the bones of this house but bring in modern features – like a new kitchen with a large island. Our entry point to design was first history - the mid-century modern architectural movement that happened in LA in the 60s and second, the home’s location next to the beach.
The home owners are a young family with 3 children and a large dog so we ensured the design would be hard wearing and durable. The aesthetic is casual and approachable – colorful without compromising sophistication. The house is also very close to the coast and their children are very active so we leaned into a surfer aesthetic with the art and honest materiality; linen, stained woods, shearling, rattan. Our Dune and Rolling Hitch rugs were designed for this client. The project was completed in 2023 and featured in Architectural Digest.
