William Tuthill, the architect who built the home originally, was our first inspiration for the millwork and interior finishes throughout, doing our best to restore the townhouse back to its original glory. We sought a design that had classical bones throughout but more fresh and eclectic furnishings for the young couple who would live there. 

In the den, we found an old sketch done by William Tuthill of a pharmacy and used that as our inspiration for the stained oak bookshelves, following Tuthill's lead for the subtle details found throughout. We then paired the classical bookshelves with a more modern fluted wood paneling throughout the room in the same stained oak finish. We found an antique cabinet we then retrofitted into a hidden bar for the room.

We kept the architectural finishes quite bright and airy and used saturated colors and patterns throughout to give the home its lively spirit. In the kitchen, we designed the space to include a breakfast nook and connected a more formal dining room to give the couple multiple spaces to inhabit throughout the day. 

On the top floor, we reimaged the layout to create a primary suite. The floor is laid out to have everything they would need - from a spacious bedroom, bathroom and closets to even a coffee station to avoid them having to make it all the way to the kitchen. We designed the bathroom floor tiles to recreate a church floor we found in Rome (not far from where the couple was engaged earlier that year).
