Theodosia is a restaurant located in Duck, nestled in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Ward + Gray were commissioned to reimagine the space, transforming it into an enchanting coastal dining experience.
The restaurant is named after Theodosia Burr Alston—the daughter of Aaron Burr and a renowned American socialite who is believed to have been lost at sea off the coast of North Carolina. We envisioned the space as Theodosia’s modern-day coastal residence, where each evening unfolds as one of her elegant dinner parties.
The interiors evoke a residential warmth from the moment guests step through the foyer. The main bar features custom-designed scorched bamboo barstools and a mermaid-scale tile created specifically for the space. A shell grotto–inspired wallpaper, printed on grasscloth and also custom designed, adds texture and depth—layering the room with a refined sense of coastal charm.
