We began the interior design concept for the 1 Hotel Melbourne by grounding ourselves in the site's natural and industrial context. Its proximity to the Yarra River and the raw, industrial structure of the building inspired a palette of rugged, honest materials - evoking the character of cargo ships and an industrial heritage.
In the guestrooms we embraced a quieter, more contemplative palette—one that fosters a sense of calm and ease from the moment you enter. Pale ivory linens were used generously across the beds and sofas, creating a light, airy foundation that feels soft and inviting. The color story remains understated throughout,
allowing texture and materiality to define the space rather than bold color or contrast. All of the furniture and rugs were custom designed specifically for the rooms, reinforcing a sense of cohesion and intentionality.
