Hoxton is a hotel in downtown Los Angeles, located in the former Los Angeles Transit Building. We designed the public areas.
The historic structure dating from 1922 is an excellent example of Beaux Arts architecture with Art Deco charm. The interiors reflect this period, embracing a bold, Fauvist color palette and fabric patterns featuring strong geometry and deco floral and palm motifs.
The rooftop areas provide a sweeping view of downtown Los Angeles and design here reflects the modernist architecture which flourished in LA in the late 1940s – early 1960s. The roof structure is simple in form and function with light filled spaces and a flat roof. It was inspired by the Los Angeles Case Study Houses, in particular the work of architect Pierre Koenig.
